cloud integration in media

PROMPT
Elaborate on three key features that you could apply to digital media from cloud functionality and two key aspects from legacy media that have been carried into the digital era for the average audience member.

RESPONSE

The 3 key features of a cloud-based system that could be applied to media, would be: 1. The ability to collaborate with individuals all around the world remotely. You could be living in New York and working on ad campaigns for people across the globe. Second is the ability to work from anywhere. Especially after the times of the pandemic and Zoom calls, people can work from anywhere, at any time, and not be bound to a traditional office environment. Third is how a cloud-based system can deliver content not only faster, but to more people in a smaller amount of time. Companies now do not need to deliver physical copies of the content because they can be shared directly and immediately through the cloud. Disney is one of the large companies that use the new cloud-based system. They use “AWS” to assist in organizing their enormous archive. Before, they had been hang-tagging all of their archival material. But, now their catalog has kept growing and growing over the years. The team that was given this massive task began using an AI program to assist in this tagging process. The Disney archive is accessed by Disney Imagineers, writers, animators, and directors when creating new content for Disney.  Another big company that uses a cloud-based system is none other than Netflix, but they use it mostly to deliver content directly to its consumers. The entire Netflix archival library is stored on hard drives in their office in Los Gatos, California. However, this method resulted in angry, unsatisfied customers as they complained about the poor streaming quality and speeds. Netflix’s solution to this problem was to install CNDs all throughout the world. Netflix has also installed these CNDs at local internet service providers with parts of their catalog. This made loading times decrease significantly more for their customers. Now, it takes longer to wait for the Netflix loading screen to start up than it does for a Netflix film or TV show to start loading. Just like Disney, Netflix also uses AWS, to store customer information like billing information, passwords, and data. These big companies rely on the AWS system because it is considered to be one of the most secure in the world with 70 server locations around the globe.
